In Hindu weddings, the groom ties a ‘thali’ (gold pendant) around the neck of the bride on their wedding day. The gold pendant is considered quite auspiscious, and the melting of the gold to fashion the pendant is an important ritual.

This ceremony, called the ‘Ponurukku’, was conducted recently for my brother’s wedding. Because there wasn’t too much space to move around, and since I knew the ceremony would be over quite quickly (as opposed to most Hindu ceremonies that seem to go on forever lol), I used 2 cameras, one with a 17-55mm f2.8, to grab wide angle views, and the other with an 85mm F1.8, to zoom in when needed.
